The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that Jonathan Trott’s tenure as head coach will conclude after the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, as part of the board’s long-term development strategy.

Under Trott’s guidance, Afghanistan recorded several landmark achievements, including wins over England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia, and Bangladesh and reached their first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal in 2024.

They also came close to a semifinal spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup, finishing sixth.

Reflecting on his stint, Trott said it had been a “privilege” to work with such a passionate and determined group, adding that he would “always remain a supporter of Afghan cricket.”

"It has been a privilege to work with the Afghanistan National Team and to witness their passion, resilience, and hunger to achieve greatness. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I will always remain a supporter of Afghan cricket. I wish the team and the Afghan people continued success in the years ahead" Trott said.
