Despite the bowlers setting up the game beautifully, Bangladesh’s batters fell short once again. Chasing just 150, Litton Das’s men were restricted to 135 for 8 on Wednesday in Chattogram.
After the defeat, Bangladesh captain Litton openly apologized to his bowlers for not finishing the job.
“Over the last two or three series, our bowlers have been outstanding. I’m really sorry to them. They performed brilliantly again, but we couldn’t chase this score,” Litton said after the match.
The bowlers had indeed produced a remarkable comeback in the first innings. At one stage, the West Indies were cruising at 105 for 1 in 11 overs, but Bangladesh’s attack hit back strongly, taking eight wickets in the final nine overs and conceding just 44 runs.
That effort gave Bangladesh the upper hand at the halfway stage, but the batters once again failed to capitalize. Apart from Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s 61, no other batter managed to reach even 25. Litton himself was the next-best scorer with 23.
Accepting responsibility, the Bangladesh skipper admitted he needed to play a longer innings.
“A target of 150 isn’t much, especially in Chattogram,” he said. “We keep getting starts but lose wickets right after. I should have batted at least until the 12th or 13th over. I have to improve, if I had stayed at the crease longer, the match could’ve been over earlier.”
