The upcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), originally scheduled for November–December 2025, has been postponed as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) focuses on preparing venues for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which the country will co-host with India.

In place of the LPL, Sri Lanka now plans to host a tri-nation T20 series featuring Bangladesh and Pakistan during the same window.

According to reliable sources, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has given verbal consent to participate following Sri Lanka’s invitation.

The LPL, initially set to run from November 27 to December 23, was postponed due to ICC venue readiness requirements. SLC is currently upgrading three major stadiums, including Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium, where work has been temporarily paused because of the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already shown willingness to join, as their December schedule remains open.

For Bangladesh, the tri-series fits well in the calendar. After the ongoing West Indies series and a home series against Ireland in early December, the team will have a short break before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) begins in the third or fourth week of December.

The BCB, awaiting the return of board president Aminul Islam Bulbul on October 22, will finalize the decision at its next meeting but insiders confirm the agreement with SLC is already nearly done.
