In the Asia Cup group-stage match against Afghanistan, a high-pressure encounter, he showcased his batting skills, scoring an unbeaten 12 off 6 balls, helping Bangladesh cross the 150-run mark.
He remained on the sidelines for the next two Super Four matches. However, with Litton Das unavailable against Pakistan, Sohan got another opportunity. In that match, he scored 16 runs off 21 balls but couldn’t secure a win for Bangladesh.
During the T20I series against Afghanistan, Sohan made a distinct mark, scoring 64 runs across three matches without being dismissed. He scored 23 off 13 balls in the first match, 31 off 21 in the second, and 10 off 9 in the final match. Such performances have opened the doors for him in the ODI squad.
With Litton unavailable, Bangladesh ODI captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz prefers Sohan behind the stumps instead of Jaker Ali. Miraz has also described Sohan as the country’s best wicketkeeper and explained his reasoning. Speaking ahead of the ODI series against Afghanistan, Miraz said,
"We know how important Sohan is as a wicketkeeper for Bangladesh. If we talk about the best wicketkeeper in Bangladesh, without a doubt, Sohan deserves that place. Naturally, he will have more opportunities for keeping in ODIs."
Miraz emphasized experience as a key factor in preferring Sohan over Jaker, adding,
"As a captain, this is what I want. He has plenty of experience and has played numerous matches for Bangladesh. If given the opportunity, I believe Sohan can bring further success to the team."
