Cricket is gradually gaining popularity in Italy, a nation globally renowned for football and four-time World Cup champions. Making history, Italy has qualified for the T20 World Cup, their first appearance in a major international cricket tournament.
Burns and Co. ordered bats from MKS Sports, a company known for producing high-quality English willow bats imported from England. The order came after they found MKS on Facebook and contacted the company via WhatsApp.
Hossain Mohammad Aftab Shaheen, one of the founders along with national players Imrul Kayes and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, shared the story with Cricfrenzy.
“Yes, it’s from Italy’s national team. They qualified for the World Cup and reached out to us directly on WhatsApp after finding our page. This is a huge achievement for us.”
MKS Sports has previously supplied bats to international stars, and Shaheen believes Burns’ choice will further boost the brand’s global recognition:
“When a top-class player from another country plays with our domestic brand, it shows the world the quality of MKS. This is a proud moment for Bangladesh,” Shaheen added.
Recently, MKS has also been making bats for Shakib Al Hasan. Shaheen is optimistic that with Shakib’s association, the reach of MKS will expand globally.
“If I talk about a world-ranking player, he [Shakib] is considered a top-class player. So, when he associates with our domestic brand and plays using our bat, other players or companies from abroad will notice MKS as a brand, a Bangladeshi brand. This is a huge achievement for us. Getting a player of his caliber is truly a matter of great fortune, because he plays in almost every T20 league around the world.”
