Hasaranga's participation in Asia Cup is in doubt

Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is facing uncertainty over his participation in next month’s Asia Cup after being left out of the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Hasaranga suffered a hamstring injury during the T20I series against Bangladesh in July and has not played since.

He was already absent from Sri Lanka’s squad for the two-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, which begins on Friday, and has now also missed selection for the T20I leg of the tour that concludes shortly before the Asia Cup kicks off on September 9 in the UAE.
The 28-year-old’s ongoing absence casts doubt on his availability for the Asia Cup, with Sri Lanka forced to turn to other spin options such as Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage, who are both part of the 17-member T20I squad.

Fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana also returns to the side after missing the ODI series, while Charith Asalanka will captain Sri Lanka across both formats.

Experienced players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Dasun Shanaka will provide depth to the batting and all-round departments.
The ODI series begins on August 29, followed by the T20Is in Harare from September 3.
