In their sixth and final group match on Friday, Nurul Hasan Sohan’s men suffered a seven-wicket defeat against the Adelaide Strikers.
The equation was straightforward: Bangladesh ‘A’ needed a big win to stay alive in the semifinal race by edging ahead on net run rate.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, they posted 175 for 4, thanks to Jishan Alam’s 38-ball 50, Afif Hossain’s unbeaten 49 off 23, and Yasir Rabbi’s quickfire 25 not out from 15 balls.
However, the chase was dominated by the Strikers’ openers, who piled up 123 runs within the first 12 overs, effectively ending Bangladesh’s hopes of qualification.
Mackenzie Harvey played a match-winning knock, smashing an unbeaten 102 off 53 balls, steering the Big Bash franchise to victory with nine balls to spare.
Among Bangladesh’s bowlers, Saif Hassan returned figures of 2 for 28 from three overs, while Mrittunjoy Chowdhury claimed 1 for 32.
With just two wins from six matches, Bangladesh ‘A’ bowed out of the tournament in the group stage.
