Australia’s white-ball campaign against South Africa has suffered multiple injury blows, with Mitch Owen, Matt Short, and Lance Morris all ruled out of the remaining matches.

Promising allrounder Mitch Owen’s anticipated ODI debut has been delayed after he entered concussion protocols. The Tasmanian was struck on the helmet’s grille by a Kagiso Rabada short ball during the second T20 in Darwin, top-edging the delivery from only his second ball faced.

Although he passed the initial on-field concussion test, Owen later developed delayed symptoms after being dismissed for eight by Kwena Maphaka.

Under Cricket Australia’s concussion guidelines, Owen must sit out for at least 12 days, ruling him out of Saturday’s deciding T20I in Cairns and the following three-match ODI series.

Meanwhile, Matt Short and Lance Morris will also miss the ODI series due to injuries, instead turning their focus to recovery ahead of the domestic summer.
