Bangladesh have secured a landmark T20I series win on Sri Lankan soil, defeating the hosts 2-1 in the three-match series.

Despite Test wins and memorable one-off victories in Sri Lanka in the past, this is the first time Bangladesh have claimed a full series in any format in the island nation.

In the series-deciding third T20I at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, Bangladesh chased down Sri Lanka’s 132-run target with ease, winning by 8 wickets with 21 balls to spare — thanks to a career-best unbeaten 73 from opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim.
Bangladesh started the day on a high after electing to field first. Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam struck in the opening over to dismiss Kusal Mendis (6), before off-spinner Mahedi Hasan removed Kusal Perera (0) in the very next over.
Mahedi continued to bamboozle the hosts, claiming 4 wickets for just 11 runs — including the key wicket of top-scorer Pathum Nissanka (46 off 39).

Sri Lanka were limited to 132/7 in 20 overs. Dasun Shanaka chipped in with an unbeaten 35 off 25 balls, including four fours and two sixes, while Kamindu Mendis scored a handy 21. Apart from Mahedi’s brilliance, Mustafizur Rahman was economical with 1/17 in 4 overs.

Bangladesh’s chase suffered an early setback with Parvez Hossain Emon departing in the very first over. But Litton Das (32 off 26) and Tanzid Hasan steadied the ship with a 74-run partnership.
Tanzid, the star of the night, smashed six sixes and a four in his 47-ball 73*, anchoring the chase confidently. Towhid Hridoy provided able support with 27* off 25 balls, adding an unbroken 69-run stand for the third wicket.
Mahedi was deservedly named Player of the Match, while Litton Das, who contributed consistently throughout the series, was adjudged Player of the Series.
This win marks a monumental moment for Bangladesh cricket, establishing their rise in the T20 format and delivering a strong message ahead of upcoming tournaments.
