On the second day of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Dhaka Capitals were set to take the field for the first time this season. With around 20 minutes remaining before the start of the match, players from Rajshahi Warriors and Dhaka Capitals were warming up beside their respective dressing rooms, accompanied by members of the coaching staff.

During the practice session, one person suddenly collapsed to the ground. A crowd quickly gathered around Dhaka’s training area, and it was evident from a distance that someone had fallen ill.

Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that Dhaka Capitals’ assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki had suddenly collapsed after feeling unwell.

CPR was immediately administered to the assistant coach. He was then rushed off the ground by ambulance and admitted to hospital.

Dhaka franchise later confirmed the incident in an official statement. Zaki was taken to Al Haramain Hospital in Sylhet.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite medical efforts, the experienced domestic cricket coach could not be saved and eventually passed away due to a heart attack.

Just a few days earlier, during the National Cricket League (NCL), Barishal Division’s physiotherapist Hasan Ahmed had also fallen ill on the field and later died in hospital.
