England’s former opener Dawid Malan, who represented Fortune Barishal in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), will play for Rangpur Riders in the new season starting 26 December.

The franchise confirmed the signing in an official statement.

Despite joining Barishal early last season, Malan initially struggled to break into a star-studded XI featuring Tamim Iqbal, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah.

But once given opportunities, he impressed, scoring 316 runs in 9 matches, including three half-centuries.

Known for his consistency in Bangladeshi conditions, Malan aims to deliver for Rangpur throughout the season after retiring from international cricket.

Rangpur have also completed direct deals with Kyle Mayers, Iftikhar Ahmed and Faheem Ashraf. While most overseas recruits are available for the full season, Faheem might miss part of the tournament due to Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka but could return after 12 January.

The Riders are ahead in overseas signings, adding Khawaja Nafay and Sufiyan Muqeem before the auction, and later securing Emilio Gay and Mohammad Akhlaq. Among locals, they have signed Nurul Hasan Sohan and Mustafizur Rahman directly.

From the auction, Rangpur picked players like Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy, Nahid Rana.
