The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finalized five franchises for the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The decision was announced on Tuesday following a meeting of the BPL Governing Council.

According to BCB, the five approved franchises represent Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur.

Among them, Champion Sports has secured ownership of the Dhaka franchise, while Toggi Sports will own Rangpur. In Rajshahi, both Desh Travels and Nabil Group had submitted bids, but Nabil Group was awarded the ownership.

The Chattogram team has been given to TriAngle Sports, and Cricket With Sami has acquired ownership of the Sylhet franchise.

The former franchise Khulna Tigers, owned by Mind Tree, had applied for ownership again this year but were not granted a team. Similarly, Akashbari Holidays, which applied for a Barishal-based team, also missed out.

In total, 11 organizations submitted bids for BPL ownership. Three of them were disqualified for failing to meet BCB’s requirements, and from the remaining eight, five were finalized.

BPL Governing Council member secretary Iftekhar Rahman Mithu told reporters that if a few more franchises fulfill the conditions before the player draft, the number of teams could still increase to four or more. He also confirmed that the BPL player draft will be held on November 17.

BCB aims to organize the upcoming BPL under stricter financial regulations and has indicated plans to kick off the tournament in late December.
