A new chapter in Southeast Asian cricket is about to begin as Malaysia prepares to host its first-ever Malaysia T20 League in June 2026.

Adding star power to the tournament, Bangladesh’s legendary opener Tamim Iqbal and Australia’s fast-bowling great Brett Lee will serve as mentors, the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) announced in a press release on Saturday.

According to the statement, the five-team tournament will take place in Kuala Lumpur from June 7 to June 27, 2026. The IPG Group, which also manages the Lanka Premier League (LPL), will oversee the event’s organization and broadcasting.

The initiative aims to elevate Malaysian cricket to the international stage and enhance the quality of local players. MCA president Mahinda Vallipuram said, “We will ensure that Malaysia’s cricket fans experience thrilling and competitive cricket throughout the tournament.”

IPG Group CEO Anil Mohan added that they plan to make the league attractive across Asia by including participation from Indian cricketers.

Details about team names, player draft procedures, and the full match schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
