Guyana's captain Imran Tahir celebrates a wicket with his teammates

Rangpur Riders fell short in their bid to win back-to-back Global Super League (GSL) titles, as they suffered a 32-run defeat to hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. Chasing a daunting target of 197, Rangpur were bowled out for 164, finishing the tournament as runners-up.

Charles dominated the powerplay, hitting four consecutive boundaries off Omarzai, while Gurbaz accelerated in the middle overs.

Despite quick dismissals of Hetmyer and Gurbaz, late cameos from Sherfane Rutherford (19* off 15) and Romario Shepherd (28* off 9) propelled the home side to a strong total.

Rangpur’s chase started poorly. Ibrahim Zadran was run out for 5 in the second over, followed by the dismissals of Soumya Sarkar (13), and Kyle Mayers (5), leaving the defending champions struggling early.

A 73-run partnership between Saif Hassan (41 off 26) and Iftikhar Ahmed (46 off 29) revived hopes briefly, but both were dismissed in quick succession — Saif via a run-out and Iftikhar lbw to Pretorius.

Rangpur collapsed from 117/4 to 164 all out, with Pretorius striking again to remove Omarzai.

Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan and Khaled Ahmed also fell cheaply, sealing Rangpur’s fate. Though Mahidul Islam Ankon played a late cameo, it wasn't enough.

Earlier with the ball, Rangpur’s bowlers struggled, with Khaled, Shamsi, and Iftikhar picking up a wicket each. Khaled’s final over leaked 19 runs, helping Guyana cross the 190-mark.

Guyana Amazon Warriors’ all-round dominance ensured they claimed the GSL 2025 trophy, dethroning the defending champions in front of a jubilant home crowd.
