Naib: Players like Shakib know how to bounce back
Shakib Al Hasan in action
After a dominant all-round performance in their opening match, Dubai Capitals faltered in their second outing of the Global Super League (GSL), falling to Hobart Hurricanes by 7 wickets.

While Shakib Al Hasan starred with a half-century and four wickets in the first match against New Zealand’s Central Districts, the Bangladesh all-rounder had an off day in the second game, managing just 7 runs and going wicketless.

Despite the loss, Dubai Capitals—champions of the International League T20—remain optimistic, relying on the experience of players like Shakib and Niroshan Dickwella to guide them back on track in this short-format tournament.
Captain Gulbadin Naib voiced his confidence in the team’s experienced campaigners, stating, “Players like Shakib know how to bounce back. We are professionals and have been playing at this level for a long time.”
After being the hero in the opener, Shakib had a quiet outing with both bat and ball. Attempting to hit Mohammad Nabi over long-on, he was caught for just 7 runs. Later, despite bowling economically in his first two overs, he failed to pick up any wickets in his four-over spell.

The Dubai skipper defended his bowling unit, emphasizing the team’s depth: “We have an experienced bowling attack. Shakib, Qais, and Drakes give us several options. Today was just a tough day for us. We’ll learn from this.”

With one win from two matches, Dubai sits fourth on the points table. To make the final, they must win both remaining group games against Bangladesh’s Rangpur Riders and hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors.
However, the quick turnaround between matches leaves little time for reflection or correction. This is where Dubai hopes its seasoned pros will step up. “Shakib has played a lot in the Caribbean. Dickwella and Drakes know these conditions well. They know how to respond in a tournament like this,” Gulbadin said.
