After a grand welcome, Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain had to watch from the sidelines as Lahore Qalandars kicked off the PSL opener against reigning champions Islamabad United with a defeat in Rawalpindi.

Colin Munro starred with the bat as Islamabad cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Lahore.

Chasing a modest target of 140, Munro’s explosive unbeaten 59 ensured a dominant start for the defending champions in Rawalpindi.

Salman Agha’s composed 41, alongside Munro, gave Islamabad a strong start to their tournament.

Earlier, Lahore innings never found momentum as they stumbled early. Fakhar Zaman’s cheap dismissal for just 1 run to Riley Meredith set the tone for a struggling start. Mohammad Naeem showed some spark with a lively 11 off 8 balls, but once Jason Holder removed him, Lahore’s top order crumbled swiftly.

Abdullah Shafique stood tall amid the collapse, crafting a fluent 66 off 38 deliveries filled with boundaries and positive intent.

Holder provided excellent spell, finishing with figures of 4 for 26, using his bounce and variations smartly.
