In what is a shockingly tragic news for the cricket fraternity, a local cricketer in Kerala died after collapsing on the pitch while taking his run-up to bowl a delivery. The cricketer, named Padmanabh, was a 20-year-old cricketer hailing from Kerala and was playing in a local tournament, where the incident was caught on camera.

The umpire was quick to react after the player collapsed, but none of the players on the field had any idea about what had happened. By the time he was taken to the hospital, he had already passed away to the shock of everyone.

This is not the first time an event of this sort has happened in the local circuit of India. Back in 2015, a Bengal cricket, Ankit Kesari, died on the field after clashing with a team-mate while fielding and subsequently succumbing to the head injuries that he suffered on impact.

In 2014, the death of Australian cricket, Phil Hughes, shook the whole world as the talented Australian cricketer died after suffering from fatal wounds on the pitch. Hughes was hit on the unprotected part of the head and collapsed on the pitch.

He was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he underwent a surgery. As a result, he was put into induced coma and died two later, having never regained consciousness.

These incidents always leave a scar in the history of the game. We can only hope that such cases never happen as cricket is a game meant to exude joy, not pain and misery.

We at Cricfrenzy convey our condolences to Padmanabh’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
