Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has offered a balanced and mature take on the much-discussed Sri Lanka–Bangladesh cricket rivalry, stating that while it may appear fierce from the outside, the on-field environment remains respectful and professional.

The Bangladesh–Sri Lanka rivalry has grown into one of the most talked-about contests in modern cricket. From the infamous Naagin Dance celebrations in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy to the timed-out controversy involving Angelo Mathews in the 2023 World Cup, the rivalry has produced moments that have gone viral, stirred fan emotions, and added spice to every encounter.

Despite these heated moments, Nissanka emphasized that mutual respect still underpins the relationship between players from both nations.
“From the outside, the rivalry may seem intense, but on the field we play in a competitive yet friendly environment,” Nissanka said in an exclusive interview with Cricfrenzy.
“As a player, I enjoy it because I believe such competition helps improve my performance.”

On the topic of franchise cricket, the Sri Lankan top-order batter expressed openness to playing abroad, especially in leagues like the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) or the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) — both of which have long featured Sri Lankan talent.

“If I get the opportunity to play in a recognized league, I will certainly play. But my first priority is always my country. Beyond that, if time and opportunity align, I’m ready to play,” Nissanka said.
Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the series-deciding T20I tomorrow, with both teams locked at 1–1 in what has been an intense and emotionally charged contest.
