The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, might be
the richest and the most powerful board in the world, but it is not without its
controversies. As the BCCI lifts its ban of the Rajasthan Cricket Association on
the condition that former Indian Premier League chairman, Lalit Modi, will be
barred from taking part in its activities.
This has obviously caused a stir as Lalit Modi wasn’t one
bit pleased with the decision, taking to Twitter his disgruntlement. He wrote
in his tweet that the “crooks” in BCCI are “afraid” of his name and that they
are “clowns” who “haven’t worked a single day in their life.”
“Wow ??. Amazing. Not been in india for 7 Years. But the
#Crook’s in @BCCI @IPL are even afraid of my name. Clowns just living off what
I created for india.Good luck to these jokers who never did a days work in
their life except live off what others created,” Modi tweeted on Monday
evening.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Modi was disgraced
by the BCCI after being found guilty of 22 charges that he committed during his
tenure as the chairman of the IPL. He was found guilty of money laundering, rigging
of bids, selling broadcast rights illegally, selling shares of franchises to his
family members and so on.
The rift between the two parties isn’t new as Modi and BCCI
have shared animosity ever since their split in April 24, 2010 – just a day
after the final of that year’s tournament. Such was the extent of their hostility
that the BCCI banned the RCA when they elected Lalit Modi as the president and
then took matters in their own hands when it came to looking after the things
that RCA did prior to their suspension.
RCA filed a lawsuit against BCCI over the suspension, after which the BCCI asked the board to withdraw all the cases. And after a lot of consideration, the BCCI have finally lifted the ban, but with the condition that Modi can’t handle its affairs.
