Jimmy Anderson, England pacer and Ben Stokes' team-mate in the Test set up of England said that Stokes had appealed to the umpires to overturn the decision of four overthrow runs which proves to be hugely controversial after the nail-biting final.

"I think, talking to Michael Vaughan who saw him after the game, Ben Stokes actually went to the umpires and said, 'Can you take that four runs off. We don't want it,” Anderson quoted to BBC tailenders.

Anderson thinks ICC should consider the rule throw hitting the bat and deflecting off to somewhere, he believes it should be given as a dead ball.
"But it's in the rules and that's the way it is. It's been talked about for a while among the players, potentially that being a dead ball if it does hit the batsman and veer off somewhere," Anderson added.

Stokes had a throw from New Zealand fielder Martin Guptill which deflected off his bat and run to the boundary in the late stages of the crucial run chase. Having completed two, England were awarded six. Other than that they would have needed seven runs from the last two balls.

If that wouldn’t have happened New Zealand might have won the World Cup because then odds might have been in their favor. But that wasn’t meant to be; England tied the match and went on to Super Over. The Super Over was also a tie and England won their first-ever ODI World Cup by boundary counts.

But after that incident, Stokes showed apologetic gestures and after that match he said, he would apologize to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for that incident in his whole life.
