In a statement on Thursday, the BCB said the current board administration has taken no decision whatsoever to change or drop the name of the stand, which was named in honour of Abu Sayed, a martyr of the July 2024 Uprising.
The board said all official stand names at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and other international venues remain unchanged and are regularly displayed during BCB-hosted matches.
According to the BCB, the Mirpur stadium has hosted matches from three international series since the current board took office earlier this year.
During those matches, the names of all stands, including the Shaheed Abu Sayed Stand, were visible inside the venue and on television broadcasts. The stand name was also printed on match tickets and promotional materials.
The board also clarified that stand signage may occasionally be damaged or temporarily removed during routine maintenance. Such work, it said, is carried out on non-match days.
The BCB stressed that the Shaheed Abu Sayed Stand was named in recognition of his sacrifice and contribution during the July Uprising and said there was “no room for confusion or speculation” over the matter.
The board further alleged that the reports were part of an attempt to spread misinformation and false claims on social media with the intention of damaging the reputation of the BCB and its current administration.
The BCB said it reserves the right to take appropriate action against such attempts in accordance with its policies.
