The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has increased the salaries of cleanliness workers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur by 50 percent, continuing a welfare initiative that BCB President Tamim Iqbal had promised during the board's ad hoc committee tenure.

The announcement was shared on Thursday by BCB director Sayeed Ibrahim, who said the decision reflected the board's commitment to recognising the contributions of those working behind the scenes to keep Bangladesh cricket running smoothly.

"Today, I am delighted to announce a salary increase for the cleanliness workers employed at Mirpur Cricket Stadium. This is part of the commitment made by President Tamim Iqbal when we took responsibility as members of the ad hoc committee," Sayeed wrote in a Facebook post.

He stressed that cricket is not solely about the players representing the national team, but also about the countless individuals whose efforts often go unnoticed.

"Behind every match, every training session and every successful event stands a group of dedicated people. Our cleanliness workers work tirelessly every day to maintain the stadium environment, uphold professional standards and ensure that players, officials and spectators enjoy the best possible experience," he said.

Sayeed added that ensuring fair compensation and dignity for all employees connected to the game is a responsibility of the board.

"Fair remuneration is not a privilege; it is proper recognition of hard work, dedication and contribution. When employees can provide a safer and more dignified life for their families, they become stronger partners in our shared goal of taking Bangladesh cricket forward," he noted.

He also said the salary increase demonstrates the board's determination to fulfil the promises made since the beginning of the ad hoc committee's tenure.

The move is one of several initiatives introduced by Tamim since assuming full-time leadership at the BCB, with a focus on improving both the matchday experience for spectators and the welfare of members of Bangladesh cricket's wider workforce.
