His century in the first innings and a crucial half-century in the second set the tone for a commanding 217-run win over Ireland, with Hasan Murad sealing the match with two quick wickets.
Ireland resumed the fifth day on 176 for 6, and many expected their innings to last no more than a session. But the visitors showed far more resilience than anticipated, forcing Bangladesh to toil for 60 overs to complete the job.
Mushfiqur’s standout all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter said he does not want to stop at 100 Tests and hopes to continue contributing. Even after 21 years in international cricket, he said each Test still feels like his debut.
“I am grateful to Allah for giving me this opportunity,” Mushfiqur said. “I’ve played 100 Tests now, but I want to play a few more. I enjoy every moment. Representing my country in 100 Tests is truly special. Even today, it feels like I’m playing my first match. I feel blessed.”
Once the youngest member of Bangladesh’s Test squad having debuted at Lord’s during the 2005 England tour Mushfiqur is now the team’s most experienced campaigner. He hopes the younger players will learn from him, as he looks to guide the next generation.
“I’m really fortunate. I try to share whatever I can with my teammates. I used to see myself as one of the young players, but not anymore; now I’m a senior, and it’s my responsibility to guide the youngsters. I’m sure they will learn from me and others as well. Hopefully, together, we can take Bangladesh cricket even further” he added.
