Mohammad Salahuddin is set to step down from his role as Bangladesh’s senior assistant coach after the upcoming Ireland series. Rumors began circulating on Tuesday night, and those whispers grew louder on Wednesday when Salahuddin was seen at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

It later emerged that Salahuddin had come to the BCB to submit his resignation. However, as the BCB President and several senior officials were unavailable, some confusion surrounded the matter.

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul later confirmed that they have received Salahuddin’s resignation.

According to sources, Salahuddin submitted his resignation to the board via email. BCB and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, who are currently at the ICC meeting, have acknowledged the letter.

Salahuddin joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board on November 5 of last year, on a contract set to run through to the 2027 World Cup.

Despite that long-term agreement, the widely successful domestic coach has decided to step down before the end of his tenure, however he will stay with the team for upcoming Ireland series. Though officially designated as the senior assistant coach, Salahuddin has also been serving as the national team’s batting coach in recent weeks.

The batting coach position had been vacant since David Hemp’s departure. While the board had been considering hiring a foreign batting coach, they had not finalized talks with anyone.

For now, Mohammad Ashraful has been appointed as the batting coach for the upcoming Ireland series.
