Rubaba becomes only the second woman ever to serve on the BCB board, after Monowara Anis Minu’s tenure in 2007. She is set to take part in today’s board meeting as the newly nominated NSC representative.
Her appointment comes after Isfak Ahsan resigned from the same post, according to an official NSC notice. Isfak had been one of two NSC-nominated directors, alongside Yasir Mohammad Faysal Ashik, announced following the BCB’s board election on October 6.
Isfak’s nomination had stirred controversy after reports linked him with the ousted Awami League. Investigations later showed that he had sought the ruling party’s nomination for the Chandpur-2 constituency during the last national election.
Although early reports claimed the NSC had removed Isfak, the council clarified on Monday that he had resigned voluntarily, paving the way for Rubaba’s inclusion in the board.
