Under his captaincy, Bangladesh have won their last four T20 series and came close to reaching the Asia Cup final, marking a period of consistent improvement in the shortest format.
A regular member of the Test squad, Litton has emerged as a strong candidate for the Test captaincy ever since Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down following the home series against Sri Lanka in June.
With the upcoming two-match Test series against Ireland scheduled for early next month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to name a new Test captain soon.
Although no official discussions have taken place yet, Litton said he would gladly accept the offer if it comes his way.
Speaking at a press conference in Chattogram ahead of the T20 series against West Indies, Litton said:
“So far, I haven’t heard anything about it. If they think I’m suitable, they will definitely talk to me. Let’s see what happens. Being a Test captain is a huge honour, I don’t think anyone would say no. But the board hasn’t said anything yet.”
In 2023, Litton led Bangladesh as a stand-in Test captain against Afghanistan when Shakib Al Hasan was injured. Bangladesh went on to register a record 546-run victory in that match.
Despite his name being discussed later that year, the leadership role was eventually handed to Shanto.
For now, Litton’s primary focus remains on T20 cricket. Before the 2026 T20 World Cup, Bangladesh are set to play six matches against West Indies and Ireland combined.
Outlining his objectives for the upcoming series, Litton said: “I want the players to face challenges. I want the bowlers to perform under pressure. These experiences will help us a lot in the future.”
