At a press conference held on Wednesday (October 8) at a hotel in Gulshan, Mohammedan Sporting Club official Masuduzzaman announced the tough decision.
The event, organized under the banner of Dhaka Cricket Club Organizers, was attended by former national captain Tamim Iqbal and representatives from nearly 40 cricket clubs.
“The election held on the 6th was completely manipulated. We do not recognize this election. In our view, the newly elected president Aminul Islam Bulbul is illegitimate. Since the spirit of cricket has been compromised, we hereby declare that we will not participate in any league, from the Premier Division to the lower tiers. For now, cricket will remain suspended,” Masuduzzaman said.
He further stated that the boycott movement will extend to the district level, and that the club organizers will remain united against any form of threat or pressure.
Earlier, the group of clubs had placed three demands before the election, including rescheduling the polls or forming an ad hoc committee to conduct a new vote.
They even submitted a memorandum to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, urging action. However, with those demands ignored and the election proceeding as scheduled, the clubs have now taken the drastic step of boycotting domestic cricket altogether.
