Ishfaq Ahsan was appointed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) under the National Sports Council (NSC) quota. However, just a few hours later, the NSC removed him from the position.

The decision was confirmed to Jamuna TV by NSC’s Executive Director, Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The BCB election, held on October 6 as per schedule, took place amid controversy and allegations of government interference, which led to the withdrawal of 21 director candidates, including former national captain Tamim Iqbal.

Despite the disputes, the election proceeded, with 23 directors elected from three categories and two additional directors nominated under the NSC quota.

Former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has been elected BCB President.

The NSC quota initially included Ishfaq and Yasir Mohammad Faysal Ashiq as directors.

However, within hours, the NSC decided to remove Ishfaq, reportedly due to his “controversial past” and political affiliations with the ruling Awami League government. The council has not yet announced his replacement.

Commenting on the decision, NSC Executive Director Kazi Nazrul Islam said,

“Through the media, we became aware of the controversial background of Ishfaq Ahsan. We have decided to remove him from the BCB directorship, and his replacement will be announced soon.”
