Nannu confirms candidacy for upcoming BCB elections

Minhajul Abedin Nannu will contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. However, the former Bangladesh captain believes that many qualified individuals often don’t get the opportunity within the BCB.

The BCB elections are set to be held in the first week of next month. The official process has already begun under the leadership of Aminul Islam Bulbul’s panel. If all goes as planned, Bulbul himself will also contest, where he will find his longtime teammate “Nannu” (Minhajul Abedin) as a rival.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Nannu formally announced his intention to run for the elections.
“I had been considering this (the BCB election) for quite some time. Former captains have a place in Category C of the election process. I’m not entirely sure how everything will turn out yet, but my mindset is positive. If everything goes well, I will certainly contest the election,” Nannu said.
He also expressed concerns regarding opportunities within the board and hinted that a final decision will be made within the next couple of days.

“This is such a place where even many deserving people cannot make it in. Working for the betterment of cricket is a huge responsibility. If given the chance, I will try to make the most of any opportunity that comes my way. For now, I can’t say much. Perhaps within the next two days, I’ll be able to clearly state my plans,” he added.

Nannu has been involved with Bangladesh cricket since the 1980s. After retiring as a player, the former stylish batter, now nearing 60, has served in various roles within the board. He hopes to utilize that vast experience if elected.
“Since retiring in 2004, I’ve been working in different capacities at the BCB. Altogether, over the past three to four decades, I have witnessed every aspect of our cricket, where we stand, what needs to be done, and how to move forward. I hope to put my experience to good use,” he said.
However, Nannu clarified that he hasn’t yet set any specific goals if elected as a director.
“I haven’t thought about fixed targets in that sense… because I’ve been involved with the BCB for a long time. I know which areas need more attention and where more work needs to be done. If elected, I’ll have more scope to work on those issues. That will be my approach,” he explained.
