The team will face South Australia in the long-format fixture, with the announcement coming through a BCB press release on Sunday. For Mahidul, this will be his first assignment as captain of the ‘A’ side, despite having very little leadership experience in domestic cricket.
Earlier in May, wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan led the Bangladesh ‘A’ team in the home series against New Zealand ‘A’, scoring a century in the opening match. However, he has missed out on selection this time.
Alongside Mahidul, the squad features Test-experienced players Saif Hassan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Nayeem Hasan, and Hasan Mahmud.
Other familiar faces in the ‘A’ setup include Ripon Mondol, Hasan Murad, and Musfik Hasan.
Currently, the Bangladesh ‘A’ side is engaged in the Top End T20 Series in Darwin, which runs until August 24. After that, they will take on Sheffield Shield champions South Australia in a four-day match starting on August 28.
