Sohan: We’re not just going to learn, our goal is to win the trophy

Since the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh have not played an international match in Australia, with the last bilateral series taking place 17 years ago. This time, however, the Bangladesh ‘A’ will travel to Australia in two phases to take part in the Top End T20 Tournament.

Led by Nurul Hasan Sohan, the seven-team competition offers a real shot at silverware. Last year, the High Performance team finished runners-up; this time, they aim to go all the way.

At today’s press conference, Sohan exuded confidence, making it clear that the team’s sights are set on winning rather than just gaining experience.
“I don’t believe much in the idea of simply going to learn. Learning is part of life, but since we’re going to play a tournament, I think the main target should be reaching the final. All of us have our eyes on lifting the trophy,” Sohan said.

The tour will feature more than just T20 action — Bangladesh ‘A’ will also play a four-day match against South Australia on August 28, serving as preparation for next year’s two-Test series against Australia. For that reason, Test regulars like Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Mahmud have been included in the squad.
