In an unprecedented move to make the tournament more inclusive and player-centric, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council, under the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), organized an open discussion titled "BPL Players' Mic" on Monday.

Senior cricketers including Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Anamul Haque Bijoy, and Zakir Hasan attended the session in person, while Najmul Hossain Shanto joined via video call.

Since its inception in 2012, the BPL has hosted 11 seasons. However, the tournament has been losing its appeal over time.

Once launched with massive hype and promise, the BPL is now frequently criticized for mismanagement, quality concerns, and lack of professionalism. The most recent edition faced backlash over issues such as players not receiving full payments and allegations of match-fixing.

Against this backdrop, the players shared their first-hand experiences and suggestions to address current challenges, and to enhance the professionalism and global appeal of the tournament. The meeting aimed to identify realistic solutions and push for a long-term vision for the BPL.


Also present were BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, BPL Chairman Mahbubul Anam, BPL Secretary Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, and other BCB directors and senior officials.


In an official statement, the BCB said this initiative marked a significant step toward building a more inclusive and player-driven BPL structure, where players will play an active role in future decision-making processes.
