Bangladesh Emerging team clinch a thriller against South Africa

In a thrilling finish at Rajshahi, tailenders Rakibul Hasan and Tofayel Ahmed guided Bangladesh Emerging to a dramatic three-wicket victory over South Africa Emerging in the first match of the three-match one-day series.

Chasing a target of 302, the hosts were in trouble at 263 for 7 in the 47th over following the dismissal of skipper Akbar Ali. But Rakibul and Tofayel produced a stunning counterattack, adding 39 runs off just 18 balls to seal the win with two balls to spare.

Rakibul remained unbeaten on 20 off 10 deliveries, smashing three sixes, while Tofayel contributed a composed 24 off 20 balls with a boundary and a six.
Earlier, opener Mofijul Islam Robin laid the foundation for the chase with a brilliant 87 off 89 balls. He was supported by Jishan Alam (31 off 27) and Ariful Islam (36). Akbar Ali added a crucial 41 off 24 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes, before falling late in the innings.

South Africa Emerging had posted a challenging 301 for 8, powered by Connor Esterhuizen’s 71 off 69 balls and Andile Simelane’s explosive 61 off 39 late in the innings.

For Bangladesh, Ripon Mondol picked up 3 wickets for 84 runs, while spinners Rakibul Hasan and Mahfuzur Rabbi shared four wickets between them, conceding a combined 72 runs in their 20 overs. Ahrar Amin also chipped in with two wickets for 51 runs.
The second and third one-day matches of the series will be played on May 14 and 16.
