Speculation has been rife over whether current BCB President Faruque Ahmed will run for re-election. Addressing the matter during an appearance on Thikana’s Khaled Muhiuddin show Tuesday, Faruque put all doubts to rest by confirming his candidacy.
“I will run in the October election,” Faruque Ahmed said in response to a question. “Some quarters that were involved in corruption in the board are still trying to suppress me. The easiest way for them is to publish a few false stories about me in the media, hoping I’ll step down like others. But I won’t.”

He further claimed that deliberate efforts are being made to undermine his leadership. “My only agenda is the improvement of cricket in Bangladesh. There’s a lot of manipulation going on behind the scenes, but this time I’ve decided to contest the election. Walking away doesn’t solve the problem,” he added.
With national elections likely to be held later this year or by June next year, and the country currently under a caretaker government, major shifts could also occur in the country’s cricket administration. A swift national election could significantly impact the dynamics of the upcoming BCB polls.
