The Sylhet Test against Zimbabwe saw a noticeable lack of enthusiasm both inside the stadium and across the city, with the gallery unusually silent. Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali believes that only strong performances on the field can reignite the fans’ passion for cricket.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the second Test in Chattogram on Saturday (April 26), Jaker said, "We must focus on delivering good performances. Nothing is more important than that. Everyone’s goal should be to perform well."

When asked if Bangladesh cricket is in decline, Jaker responded, "It’s natural that young players will take some time to settle in when senior players are no longer part of the team. I believe it will take a little time, but things will get back on track."

While acknowledging that the defeat to Zimbabwe was embarrassing for the nation's cricket, Jaker placed the blame primarily on the batting unit.

"Losing can happen against any team. But it’s important that we stick to the right processes, especially with our batting. We are struggling because of poor batting. We need to focus on better shot selection. Bowlers cannot win every match. Although they often do, without strong batting performances, winning becomes very difficult," he said.

Jaker reiterated a familiar sentiment about off-form Mushfiqur Rahim, stating, "Mushfiq bhai always works hard, and he is still doing so."

When asked during the press conference if Mushfiqur’s lack of runs is a concern, Jaker responded, "He is not playing alone in the team. It's not only him who needs to score runs... Everyone must contribute. Maybe he isn’t scoring at the moment, but that can happen to any player. There’s no rule that he must score in every match."
