Cricket committee of Dhaka metropolis on Sunday decided to scrap off the foreign quota system for the upcoming edition of Dhaka Premier League, scheduled to start on March 15.
This is the first time in DPL history no foreign players will be allowed to play in the only 50-over domestic tournament of the country after the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the clubs gave their consent to the decision.
The availability of the quality foreign players also forced the CCDM to take such decision as players like Wasim Jaffer, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Saad Nasim, who were nowhere near to national team took part in the last edition of the tournament.

‘I think it will be a great opportunity for our local players. We don’t see foreign players in BCL and NCL. We want to do the same in DPL for this year. We have made up the decision after discussing with the board and the clubs,’ CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed told reporters in Mirpur.
The CCDM also decided to bring the open market system this year, scrapping off the old player-by-choice-system which was one of the 13 demands of Bangladeshi players during their strike in October last year.
Inam confirmed that the players transfer would take place on March 3-5 and as the national team players would be busy with their one-day international series against Zimbabwe in Sylhet, there would be a separate desk for them to enroll their names.
Inam informed that the initial few matches of DPL this year would be held outside Dhaka, most likely in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar respectively as they wanted to give some break of Mirpur and BKSP wickets.
As per the clubs request, the BCB will provide the accommodation and travel fees of the players when the DPL matches will be held outside Dhaka, said Inam.
The CCDM however lessened the number of teams to six from 12 for the DPL Twenty20 tournament, which will be held after the 50-over tournament.
The clubs, who will progress to super six round, will also have the chance to play in the tournament and they have the opportunity to include maximum three players from the bottom six teams for the Twenty20 tournament if they feel any necessity.
