Bangladesh white-ball batting consultant Neil McKenzie said that his charges need to be more hungry and selfish in terms of winning matches for their country.
McKenzie did not hesitate to express his disappointment by the fact that some of the members of the national team is just happy to be part of the team without having any big goal to achieve.
’We need more consistency and I want someone to be selfish in terms of winning games for Bangladesh and not selfish for their own right,’’ he said.
‘’If I got an 80 why can t I score 140 and score 200 .i think I want them to be more selfish and more hungry probably selfish is a wrong word .i want them to be hungry for consistency because a lot of the time guys are happy to play their next game by just scoring 40 runs and that’s the wrong mentality,’’ he said.
‘’I want guys to be the best batsman in the world and that’s what we are trying to install and but it's been frustrating,’’ he said.
McKenzie said was not ideal for them as they have a relatively young batting unit coupled by having too many top-order batsmen in the squad as according to him batting in the middle-order is completely a different ball game altogether.
‘’I think obviously it’s not ideal but I think you have got to look at the combination about who is playing. Obviously Russel being a new coach trying different combinations but I think at the moment we have got too many batsman batting 1,2, and 3 and if you look at the squad they are all quality players but the they all bat in the top order,’’ he said.
‘’It’s a different skill batting at 4,5,6 because you are on 0 and you are facing a quality spinner and it’s totally a different mindset because you have to know your game and try and rotate the strike and go for boundary options,’’
‘’You know there is lot of inexperience in that squad and we know that when we selected the squad but it's still disappointing
‘’We missed on a good start on the other day but what is more disappointing for me is the intent because we have been working really hard on rotation of the strike and putting the bowler under pressure and make him bowl at where you want to bowl .I think I have not seen that in the last t-20.Just the intent and looking to be more hungry and playing with no fear that’s Russell wants to install in a player,’’ he said.
