High-flying Rangpur down struggling Dhaka
Dhaka Capitals celebrate a wicket, Cricfrenzy
Rangpur’s bowlers delivered a stellar performance, bundling Dhaka out for just 111 runs. Chasing a modest target of 112, Rangpur stumbled early but recovered swiftly thanks to their in-form batters.
Despite losing Azizul Hakim Tamim for just 5 runs at 17/1, England’s Alex Hales steadied the innings. Hales, fresh off a century in the previous match, played a quickfire knock of 44 runs off 27 balls, smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 162.96. Though he missed out on a half-century by 6 runs, his efforts laid the foundation for an easy chase.
After Hales’ departure, Saif Hassan fell for 13, but Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed ensured there were no further hiccups. Khushdil scored an unbeaten 27, while Iftikhar remained not out on 9, guiding Rangpur to victory with 40 balls to spare.
Dhaka Capitals, owned by Shakib Khan, have now lost both encounters against Rangpur Riders this season.
After losing the toss, Dhaka’s openers started cautiously but failed to convert their starts into substantial scores. Habibur Rahman Sohan managed 14 runs off 12 balls, while Jason Roy added 18. Tanzid Tamim, coming in at number three, scored a quick 20 off 16 balls before his dismissal triggered a collapse.
The middle order crumbled under pressure, with Sabbir Rahman (2), Thisara Perera (0), Litton Das (9), Mosaddek Hossain Saikat (12), and Amir Hamza (0) failing to make significant contributions. In the lower order, Alauddin Babu’s 16 off 16 provided some resistance, but he lacked support as the team folded for 111 runs in 18.3 overs.
Nahid Rana led the charge for Rangpur, taking 3 wickets for just 31 runs. Khushdil and Aaqib Javed claimed two wickets each, while Sheikh Mahedi, Iftikhar, and Kamrul Islam Rabbi chipped in with one wicket apiece.
