The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been embroiled in controversy just months after leadership changes in August. Following the departure of former BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon and several others, Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim joined the board as directors, with Faruque later assuming the presidency.

However, tensions between the two have surfaced, raising concerns within the cricket community.

Recent days have seen negative reports about the BCB. Allegations of misconduct were leveled against Mahfuzul Alam, the press secretary to sports advisor Asif Mahmood, for his behavior towards President Faruque Ahmed. Subsequently, Fahim accused the BCB president of mistreatment, further fueling discussions about discord among board officials.

Former Bangladesh captain and ex-BCB director Khaled Mahmud Sujon voiced his frustration over the situation. Speaking to the media in Sylhet on Monday.

“I saw yesterday’s (Sunday) incident involving Faruque bhai and Fahim bhai. Both are former cricketers—why should there be ego problems between them? They came to serve cricket and had shown great commitment when they joined. Fahim bhai, in particular, had spoken about long-term plans and visions.” Sujon said,

In a recent interview with a private TV channel, Fahim stated that he had expressed dissatisfaction with not being made chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee.

Sujon criticized Fahim’s stance, saying, “Now it seems more like greed. Why should it be about getting Cricket Operations? If you are made chairman of another committee, can’t you serve there? Why insist on a specific role? Is Fahim bhai the only expert in Cricket Operations? Before him, Akram Khan led the committee as a former captain and chairman. So why is Fahim saying it has to be him? This is becoming an issue of ego.” ” Sujon, who currently the coach of Dhaka Capitals in the ongoing BPL, said.

As a former cricketer, Sujon expressed embarrassment over the situation, saying, “It feels shameful to see such attitudes. These are two senior individuals—Faruque bhai and Fahim bhai—whom we respect greatly. When I see them like this, I wonder if we cricketers are inherently so greedy.”

Moreover, over four months since assuming leadership, the BCB has yet to form a working committee, which Sujon sees as another failure of the current administration.
