While controversies surround his omission from Pakistan's ongoing Test series against South Africa, Shaheen has chosen to steer clear of the debate and focus entirely on his BPL commitments.

Shaheen’s absence from the Pakistan Test squad has been officially attributed to rest, but reports in Pakistani media suggest disciplinary issues might be the cause. When asked about these speculations, Shaheen declined to comment but emphasized that he is fit and ready to play.

On Saturday morning, Shaheen was seen practicing with Barishal at the Mirpur Academy Ground. Bowling alongside Ebadot Hossain, the left-arm pacer appeared in full rhythm during the net session.

Speaking to the media afterward, Shaheen shared his excitement about playing in the BPL.

“I am thrilled to play in the Bangladesh League. When Tamim bhai called me to join the team, I was excited from that moment. I know the people of Bangladesh love cricket and their superstars.”

When asked about the key factor behind his decision to play in the BPL, Shaheen said, “For me, it was Tamim Iqbal’s phone call. Whenever Tamim bhai calls, I am ready. Over the past few years, I’ve been busy with international commitments and couldn’t play here. This year, I had the time, and I hope to play good cricket here.”

Shaheen is arguably the biggest international name in this year’s BPL, but he downplayed his star status.

“Honestly, I am not a star. Many of Bangladesh’s top players are here—Tamim is playing, and so are others from the national team. For me and for everyone here, the real stars should be the local players. I am just a cricketer trying to perform for my team and help them win matches.”

The BPL is set to kick off on Monday, with Fortune Barishal among the favorites to make a strong impact in the tournament.
