The former Bangladesh captain’s fitness appears to be a concern, with reports suggesting he is not in playing condition for the tournament. However, Sylhet Strikers are not ruling him out just yet. Head coach Mahmud Emon has stated that the team will consider Mashrafe if he feels fit enough to play.
Sylhet’s first match in the 11th edition of the BPL is scheduled for December 31. When questioned about Mashrafe’s absence after the team’s practice session in Mirpur, coach Emon said, “He’s still part of the squad. Mashrafe is a vital part of this team. It depends on how he feels and his fitness status. If he is ready to play and the situation allows, he will definitely play.”
However, Mashrafe’s current fitness status has cast doubt on his participation. When asked about his chances of playing, coach Emon said, “Discussions are ongoing, but it depends on the situation.” He clarified that the “situation” refers to Mashrafe’s fitness, emphasizing that preparation is crucial.
“Until he is fit to play, we won’t consider him. We will wait for him, but it’s his decision to declare himself ready. There is a time limit, and if he’s not ready by then, we’ll have to bring in another player.” Emon added.
Mashrafe last played competitive cricket in April this year during the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. Since stepping down from his role as a Member of Parliament after the political changes in August, he has not been seen in public.
Despite this, Sylhet picked him during the BPL players’ draft in October, showing confidence in the veteran cricketer.
