Tigers clinch historic T20I series win over West Indies
Bangladesh team celebrate against West Indies
After the tourists were limited to 129 for seven, medium-pacer Taskin claimed two early wickets and then returned to seal victory in the 19th over when he dismissed all-rounder Akeal Hosein, who fell for 31 to a catch at backward-point just as he was threatening to win the match off his own bat as the West Indies were folded for 102.
Taskin finished with three for 16 while fellow seamer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and wrist-spinner Rishad Hossain took two wickets each.
Hosein and Roston Chase rescued the Caribbean team from an abject collapse at 42 for six in the ninth over, putting on 47 for the seventh wicket before Hossain struck two critical blows when he bowled Chase for a topscore of 32 and then had Gudakesh Motie taken at long-off first ball to tilt the balance of the match decisively Bangladesh’s way.
At one point in the Bangladesh innings, it seemed unlikely that Bangladesh would even reach 100 runs. However, Shamim Hossain shattered those doubts with a late blitz, scoring 35 off just 17 balls.
After losing the toss, Bangladesh batted first but suffered an early collapse, losing two wickets for just 11 runs. Litton Das continued his poor form, departing for only 3 runs off 10 balls.
He was stumped off Akeal Hosein’s bowling, leaving the team at 8 for 1. Shortly after, Tanzid Tamim was bowled by Roston Chase for just 2 runs off 4 balls, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 8 for 2.
Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz tried to stabilize the innings with a partnership, but it was short-lived.
Soumya was dismissed for 15 runs, and the 28-run stand was broken at 39 runs. Bangladesh lost their third wicket at this stage.
In the very next over, Mehidy Hasan Miraz followed suit, scoring 26 off 25 balls before being caught at deep backward square leg off Alzarri Joseph.
The wickets kept tumbling as Rishad Hossain was bowled by Gudakesh Motie for just 5 runs off 4 balls, leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble at 52 for 5. Mehidy Hasan Rana’s attempted sweep against Motie in the 15th over also resulted in a dismissal, as he departed for 11 runs off 11 balls.
Jaker Ali tried to counterattack in the later stages but couldn’t last long. He scored 21 off 20 balls, hitting one four and one six, before being caught by Rovman Powell off Obed McCoy in the 16th over.
His departure left Bangladesh struggling at 7 wickets down, but Shamim’s late surge ensured the team crossed the 120-run mark.
