Tahir intentionally tried to humiliate Rangpur, says CEO
Ishtiaque Sadeque (L), Cricfrenzy
Tahir raised this serious allegation during the toss ahead of a Global Super League match against Rangpur, a moment caught live on television.
Rangpur Riders’ CEO Ishtiaque Sadeque has opened up about the matter and said Tahir intentionally tried to humiliate Rangpur.
Also admitted that Tahir, along with four other foreign players, is yet to receive a portion of their payments. He assured that the dues would be cleared by the end of December, as per the agreed schedule. Both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Tahir’s agent are aware of the situation.
"Tahir intentionally tried to humiliate us during the toss of the third game against Guyana. We were waiting for the tournament to conclude before addressing the matter publicly," Ishtiaque told Cricfrenzy on Wednesday.
"Tahir is not the only one; four other foreign players are also awaiting partial payments. The BCB and their agents have been informed, and the payment schedule has been communicated via email."
Previously, Tahir had accused Rangpur during the toss, saying, "I played for Rangpur Riders in the last BPL, but I didn’t receive all my payment. That motivates me in today’s game to perform well against them."
However, Tahir’s side, Guyana Amazon Warriors, couldn’t avenge his grievances, losing to Rangpur by 15 runs. Tahir bowled well, taking 2 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs, but Guyana fell short, getting bowled out for 102 in pursuit of Rangpur’s 117. Rangpur eventually advanced to the final and clinched the championship by defeating Victoria’s Australian team by 56 runs under Nurul Hasan Sohan's captaincy.
Tahir had played three matches for Rangpur Riders in the last BPL, taking 6 wickets. Despite their early struggles, Rangpur reached the qualifiers but couldn’t make it to the final. Tahir’s recent comments have put the former BPL champions in an awkward position ahead of the new season.
