Soumya’s blistering knock secures GSL title for Rangpur Riders
Rangpur Riders team celebrate with GSL title
Soumya’s innings, featuring seven boundaries and five sixes, was complemented by his opening partner Steven Taylor, who contributed a solid 68 off 49 balls with four boundaries and four sixes. The duo’s 147-run opening stand laid the foundation for Rangpur's dominance.
In reply, Victoria struggled to build momentum despite a fighting 40 from opener Joe Clarke. Rangpur’s bowlers dismantled the batting lineup with precision. Harmeet Singh led the charge with figures of 3-19, while Rishad Hossain (2-26), Saif Hassan (2-21), and Mahedi Hasan (2-20) chipped in with crucial wickets.
Consistent breakthroughs and disciplined bowling ensured Victoria never got close to the target, handing Rangpur a comprehensive win and their first GSL title.
Soumya’s match-winning performance in the final not only secured the title for Rangpur but also earned him dual honors as Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
There had been doubts about Soumya, Rishad Hossain, and Afif Hossain participating in the final due to their commitments with Bangladesh’s ODI squad, which is set to play the West Indies on December 8.
But Rangpur were able to eventually reach an agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board that allowed them to play crucial roles in their victory.
