West Indies’ white-ball head coach Daren Sammy acknowledged Bangladesh’s potential and emphasized the need for his team to deliver their best to secure wins in the upcoming ODI series.
Speaking to Cricfrenzy, Sammy stated, "We play cricket to win, and we never underestimate any team. Bangladesh is an experienced side that plays quality cricket. To beat them, we need to bring our A-game."
The former all-rounder further elaborated on his coaching philosophy, which involves taking all opponents seriously while focusing on finding and nurturing talent within his own team.
"When I watch other teams play, I think about how we can beat them. Bangladesh has some very good players. My job in the West Indies is to identify and prepare our players to compete against strong opponents, and that’s exactly what we’re doing."
Upon Bangladesh’s arrival in St. Kitts, Sammy met with interim captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz at the team hotel, greeting him with a warm embrace. The two shared a nostalgic moment, having previously worked together during their time with Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Sammy fondly recalled those days, expressing his admiration for Miraz’s growth as a cricketer.
"It’s always great to meet a former teammate. When I captained him in Rajshahi, he was very young, but we had great times together. It doesn’t even feel like it’s been that long since we last met."
"Seeing him progress makes me very happy. He’s now a leader, and I hope he has carried lessons from our time together into his game. My best wishes are with him."
