Following the match, Imrul addressed the media to share the reasons behind his retirement from first-class cricket. The 37-year-old, who played 39 Tests for Bangladesh, explained that his fitness no longer supports the demands of four-day matches, though he remains confident in his abilities for ODIs and T20s.

"My current fitness level allows me to continue playing ODIs and T20s for a few more years. But the strength and determination required for four-day matches are no longer there. It feels embarrassing if I compare myself to younger players and fail to match their pace. In shorter formats, the game ends in a day, and I can give my full energy," Imrul explained.

Retirement announcements remain uncommon in Bangladesh cricket, but this season of the NCL has seen exceptions. Rajshahi Division's Farhad Hossain ended his 19-year first-class career just days ago. Imrul has now followed suit, closing a 17-year chapter in red-ball cricket.

Despite being advised by many to continue for another two years, Imrul stuck to his decision.

"First, I want to thank the BCB for supporting my decision. Many people told me, ‘You could play for two more years.’ But I felt that if I continued, the same people would later ask, ‘When will you retire?’ I believe it’s better to leave on your own terms while you still have respect. Knowing when to step away with dignity is crucial," Imrul said.

Having played 131 matches across all formats for Bangladesh, Imrul considers Shakib Al Hasan the best captain he has played under and Tamim Iqbal his finest opening partner. Reflecting on his time with former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha during the latter’s first stint (2014-2017), Imrul credited Hathurusingha for teaching him valuable lessons.
