Debutant storms Kiwi to victory

The reigning world T20 champions' failure to grab a win in this tour is still continuing as they lost the 1st clash of a 3-match T20I series. They finished 47 runs short of the 188-run target today at Saxton Oval.
Winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first. New Zealand posted a total of 187 runs on the scoreboard, losing 7 wickets. The Windies team were all out at 140 runs.
Among the black caps' batsmen, Colin Munro and Glen Phillips picked up their half-centuries. Munro scored 53 runs before leaving the ground, while Phillips scored 55 runs and later received the Man of the Match award.
Ross Taylor's innings of 20 runs and Mitchell Santner's unbeaten knock of 23 runs were the other notable contributions from the New Zealand batting line-up.
Both Jerome Taylor and Carlos Brathwaite bagged 2 wickets while Samuel Badree, Kesrick Williams and Ashley Nurse got a wicket each. Alongside the 25 runs in the last over, Kesrick allowed a total of 52 runs in the 4 overs he had bowled.

West Indian batting line-up failed to meet the expectations as only four batsmen scored 20 or more runs. Andre Fletcher's innings of 27 runs was the highest individual score in the 2nd innings.
Among the Kiwi bowlers, Seth Rance and Tim Southee got 3 wickets each. The Kiwi debutant, Seth Rance, was phenomenal dismissing both of the openers and that eventually led to the fall of the West Indian batting line-up. His last victim was Samueal Badree who was trapped lbw.
Bracewell picked up 2 wickets in the 2 overs he had bowled. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner also scalped a wicket each as the Caribbeans were all out in 19 overs of the game.
After the game, Glen said, "It was a little bit tough early on. The pitch was slow than what we expected. Credit to the Windies.
"Me and Munro went too hard but then reined ourselves in. When you are 6 off 12, it gets tough, but Munro told me to keep going,"
"We had a pretty complete performance, but you still have to go and critic yourself. I could have batted better in the first six. Batting at three is basically the same as opening." he added.
With the Black Caps leading it 1-0, the series is still there to be won. West Indies need to end their bad run and make something out of their tour of New Zealand in the remaining two T20Is.
