‘I was embarrassed’ – Alastair Cook

The first three Tests in the Ashes were something to forget
for Alastair Cook and the team. After all, not only did England lose all three
Tests, Cook also had a time to forget as he mustered only 83 runs in 3 Tests
combined.
However, all that has been forgotten with the way he has
batted in the fourth Test. Scoring an unbeaten 244 runs, Cook became the
highest scorer in the history of Tests played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
And Cook himself stated that he feels relieved after finally
being among the runs.
“Last night (the feeling) was relief and I was quite
emotional, and today I was quite proud that I came back, got in the game and
dug deep to get a big one,” Cook told to BTSport.

The former captain then admitted that it was tougher to bat yesterday
due to the severity of the heat.
“Yesterday was probably a bit tougher because it was a lot
hotter and after fielding as well.”
At one point, the milestone of 200 runs looked at risk for
the left-handed batsman as the players on the other end were tumbling down one
after the other. However, Cook formed a great partnership with Stuart Broad—something
that allowed him to score the double hundred while also posting a great total
for England.
“We got Broady focused on his targets and he played
beautifully and I gave him the strike to knock singles and he kept crashing
them for four.
Finally, Cook then admitted that he was embarrassed with the
way he had been batting in the series and also stated that while his batting
might not always be pretty, he does go about things effectively.
“It's one of those 10 hours where I'll look back and go
'yeah, things were working well'. The whole tour I've been struggling to get
that rhythm of batting and I was a bit embarrassed by my performance, but at
least today I've gone on and got a big one.
“It's never going to be pretty, my batting, but sometimes
it's effective.”
