Smith, who is set to captain Australia in the two-match Test series in Galle starting January 29 in place of regular skipper Pat Cummins, has a history of elbow issues, including surgery in 2019. However, this latest setback is reportedly unrelated to his previous injuries.
The 35-year-old had an impressive return to the BBL, scoring 121 not out and 52 in his two innings between Test commitments.
