To achieve this, Bangladesh must finish in the top six of the ICC Women’s Championship points table. Having swept Ireland 3-0 in their previous ODI series, the Nigar Sultana Joty-led side now faces the West Indies in a series that could set their World Cup berth.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, skipper Nigar Sultana emphasized the importance of the series, describing it as a "mission for the World Cup ticket."
“Our sole objective is to secure four points and confirm our spot in the World Cup. We need to play good cricket, win the series, and the rest will follow. Our focus is entirely on winning matches.” Nigar said in the press conference on Saturday.
The conditions in the West Indies, particularly at the challenging St. Kitts venue, add an extra layer of difficulty. However, Joty remains optimistic, saying, “Every venue presents challenges, and we must face them positively. We have some experience with St. Kitts’ conditions, though most of our current players weren’t part of the 2018 tour. Success depends on how we approach the series—as just another contest or as a gateway to the World Cup. The team is highly focused and determined.”
St. Kitts has proven to be a tricky ground even for Bangladesh’s men’s team, which lost all three ODIs there despite posting competitive totals. Addressing concerns about the batting-friendly wickets, Joty remarked, “It’s a good opportunity for our batters. If we bat well, it will ease the job for our bowlers, who have consistently performed well. Our team combination is in good shape, and we are confident about giving our best.”
The ODI series against the West Indies begins on January 19, followed by matches on January 21 and 24. The T20I series will take place on January 27, 29, and 31, with all matches hosted in St. Kitts.
